(Bilisummaa, October 22, 2011) – The Federal Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (FEACC) said the former president of the Benishangul Gumuz State, Yaregal Aysheshum, who is suspected in corruption, is put under control on Thursday.
Yaregal was a member of the parliament and also Director-General of the Federal Cooperative Agency (FCA).
The Commission said Yaregal was put under control after the House of Peoples’ Representatives at its 2nd regular meeting of the 2nd tenure held here last Tuesday had stripped his immunity.
According to the Commission, Yaregal is arrested because of misuse of power.
Yaregal was stripped of parliamentary immunity as per the request from the Commission.
The commission said Yaregal embezzled the federal subsidy budget allocated in 1998EC for the construction of the Tana Beles Girls’ Boarding School, Gilgel Beles Teachers’ Training Education College and Assosa Technical and Vocational Training Institute.
The formers state chief was embezzling the public resource with former state education bureau head Habtamu Hika and also with contactors, it said.
The commission said the former state education bureau head, Habtamu Hika and the alleged contactors, who collaborated for the case, are under investigation.
